Al Barsha Pond Park

Al Barsha Pond Park is a roughly 20-hectare public park operated by Dubai Municipality, built around a large artificial lake in the residential district of Al Barsha 2. It sits directly opposite Al Barsha Mall and about ten minutes from Mall of the Emirates, making it one of the more accessible green spaces on this side of the city.
The park is relevant to two different groups: residents of Al Barsha, Al Quoz, Al Sufouh, and nearby communities who use it as a daily fitness and family space, and visitors who want an outdoor break from Dubai’s malls and megaprojects. Unlike Dubai’s paid attractions, this is a functional municipal park — a padded jogging track, cycling paths, sports courts, and a boating lake, not a themed experience. There’s no admission charge, and the layout is straightforward: a main entrance at the north end, sports facilities in the north-east corner, and the lake taking up most of the centre.
What a first-time visitor needs to know is simple. There’s free parking, the park is walkable from public transport but not directly on the metro line, and the facilities are aimed at everyday recreation rather than tourism. It’s a practical stop rather than a landmark, and it should be treated that way when planning a Dubai itinerary.
What’s Inside Al Barsha Pond Park
The park is centred on a man-made lake, with a roughly 2.5 km padded jogging track and a parallel cycling track running around the perimeter. Sports facilities cluster in the north-eastern corner: tennis courts, a mini football pitch, a basketball court, and a beach volleyball court, most of which can be booked through Dubai Municipality’s facility-booking channels rather than used on a strict walk-up basis.
Three separate shaded children’s play areas are spread through the grounds, along with open lawns suited to picnics — a genuine rarity in a city where grass parks are limited. At the lake itself, concessions rent bicycles (single, twin, and family versions) and self-propelled or solar-powered boats. A kiosk near the main entrance sells snacks, drinks, and ice cream, and restrooms and prayer rooms are located near the entrance gate.
Barbecuing and open grilling are prohibited throughout the park to protect the greenery, and the paths are lit at night, which keeps the jogging and cycling tracks usable well after sunset. If your visit to Al Barsha Pond Park is built around exercise rather than picnicking, the lit evening hours are the more comfortable option for most of the year.
For a broader sense of what else the district offers, WTDD’s Al Barsha area guide covers nearby dining and shopping options within walking distance of the park.
Insider Tips
- Getting there by metro: The nearest stations are Mall of the Emirates and Sharaf DG on the Red Line, roughly a 15–20 minute walk or a short taxi ride from the park entrance.
- Getting there by bus: Feeder buses F33, 84, and 93 stop close to the park’s western side.
- Getting there by car: Free parking is available in car parks to the north and south of the park; access is straightforward from Sheikh Zayed Road or Umm Suqeim Street.
- Avoiding crowds: Weekday mornings are consistently quieter than weekend afternoons and sunset hours.
- What to bring: Water and sun protection are worth carrying between May and September, when there’s little shade over the jogging track and open lawns.
- Booking sports courts: Tennis, basketball, and football facilities are managed through Dubai Municipality’s booking channels rather than available purely on arrival, so it’s worth checking ahead if a specific court is the goal of the visit.
- House rules: Grilling and barbecues are not permitted, and visitors are asked to dress modestly and keep the park clean.
Plan Your Visit
Opening Hours
Al Barsha Pond Park is open daily. Reported hours are consistent across Dubai Municipality-linked listings and recent visitor sources:
- Sunday–Thursday: 8:00 AM – 11:00 PM
- Friday–Saturday: 8:00 AM – 11:30 PM
- Public holidays: hours are sometimes extended, occasionally to midnight
Best Time to Visit
November through March, when daytime temperatures are mild enough for extended outdoor activity. Within a single day, early morning (6–8 AM) or the evening after sunset are the most practical windows, particularly between May and September when midday heat makes the park’s open lawns and unshaded jogging track uncomfortable.
