Dubai Creek is the saltwater inlet that split the city into Deira and Bur Dubai and gave Dubai its start as a trading port. Today it remains the most authentic slice of old Dubai — wooden abras crossing the water, spice and gold souks lining the banks, and a skyline that blends heritage windtowers with modern towers.

Overview

Dubai Creek stretches roughly 14km inland from the Arabian Gulf, dividing Deira in the north from Bur Dubai and Al Fahidi in the south. Long before glass towers defined the city, this waterway was Dubai’s original trade route, and it’s still lined with warehouses, dhow yards, and centuries-old souks. A short abra ride across Dubai Creek remains one of the cheapest and most memorable experiences in the entire city.

• Ride a traditional abra: These wooden ferries have crossed Dubai Creek for decades and cost next to nothing.
• Walk the Gold and Spice Souks: Both sit right along the creek in Deira.
